PREPARING A BLOOD CELL MICROSCOPE SLIDE
- Wipe fingertip with individual alcohol swap
- Swing arm down to get blood to pool in fingertip, if necessary.
- Pierce fingertip with individually-wrapped sterile lancet
- Throw away lancet into beaker filled with alcohol.
- Squeeze a drop or two of blood onto microscope slide
- As pictured, with a second slide, draw the blood along the slide (don't smear it) to spread it out as thinly as possible.
- Dip the bloody part of the slide in Wright's stain
- Allow to air dry for one minute.
- If necessary, VERY GENTLY, rinse off the excess stain under a dripping tap
- Your blood slide is ready to be looked at!
