Grade 10 Pre-IB Science: Optics Test Outline and Review

A: OUTLINE for OPTICS TEST - Wednesday, March 6

* basic awareness of the electromagnetic spectrum (micro waves, infrared, visible light, X-rays etc)

* pinhole camera (concept and calculation) – This topic is not in the textbook, so refer to your notes.

* refraction concepts and calculations using these 3 equations

* convex lens calculations using the lens equation.

* ray diagrams:   convex lenses

* plane mirrors (law of reflection) and using a ray diagram to identify image characteristics

* ray diagrams:   concave mirrors

* optical devices:   you are expected to know a bit (ie: 1 or 2 marks) about each optical device you observed during the presentations.  This information will be taken from the handout provided by each group.

* Be prepared for a major question on any optical device.
