IMPACT OF WAVES AND SOUND ON TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY
Individually or in groups of two, collect information on each of the five topics below. I’ve suggested one website address for each, although you can search elsewhere for information.
I am expecting to see a minimum of ½ page, typed, per topic, although you may wish to include more information. “Cutting and pasting” large blocks of text is strongly discouraged. Instead, I would rather see a point form summary of the main points.
Show your work to Mr. K. at the end of today’s class, completed or not. I will read and mark the answers but not collected them since you will need them for test studying. All these topics are “fair game” for tomorrow’s test.

D: EFFECTS OF NOISE POLLUTION
What is it? What sound levels are considered ‘pollution.’ Discuss the impacts of noise pollution on the physical and psychological health of humans. What impacts are there are animal populations, movements and reproductive success.
E: CONTROLLING THE SWAYING OF SKYSCRAPERS
Skyscrapers all have a natural frequency at which they sway. What are some of the forces which cause sway? Discuss the impact of sway on the inhabitants of the building and on the safety of the structure itself. How can sway be minimized or controlled.
